GAPS Introduction Diet - Stage 2
We decided to move onto the second stage of The GAPS Diet after just 3 days on the 1st Stage. We were already seeing incredible improvements for the whole family and felt it would be best to progress to the 2nd stage.
The first of our stage 2 "new" meals, was a casserole, cooked in stock in the oven. (I followed a recipe from 30 Days On GAPS Intro Handbook) It was a delicious change from having plain, boiled soups for 3 days!
Other yummy introductions during the 2nd Stage of the GAPS Diet included:
- Raw Organic Egg Yolk, mixed through soup, followed by soft boiled eggs couple of days later
- Sauerkraut
- Yoghurt - which I homemade
- Organic Frozen Peas - I've limited the boys to 1/2 a cup a day or they would eat just peas for breakfast, lunch and dinner!
- Cod Liver Oil
- Homemade Ghee
Reflecting on stage two, the most incredible change was my 2.5 year old's skin. He has had chronic eczema since he was a baby (you name the eczema treatment and we have tried it!) and for the first time we are actually seeing results... every day his skin is getting clearer and it's as if the eczema patches are vanishing before our eyes.
I don't think I've mentioned much about his condition on here, so in brief - he has discoid eczema - a stubborn form of eczema which appears in round discs and hangs around and around and around, no matter the treatment. Well, except now with GAPS. For the first time ever we are seeing daily improvements. The poor thing has had these horrible eczema discs on his face and on his back and arms for as long as I can remember. We have tried EVERYTHING - hence why we have turned to the healing GAPS diet - mainly to finally heal his eczema, which we can see is happening. Hooray!
Improvements happened a lot quicker than I expected, I mean halfway through the 2nd stage the usually rough, red patches were smooth and vanishing at an incredible rate. I'll be sure to keep you updated on his progress as we move through the GAPS Diet.
The positive results by far make up for the constant cooking and cleaning that has been happening to keep up with all the stock/soup/meat/veg that has to be consumed on the diet. To be honest, it's been a challenge and, despite LOVING cooking, at times I've felt like I've been constantly attached to the stove (and it's been even more of a challenge when cooking through Melbourne heatwaves!) - but I'm well aware that the health of my family is of paramount importance and that by following this incredible diet we are experiencing healing the likes of which we have never seen before.
Thankfully we were well prepared and knew what we were getting ourselves into and that the strict introduction diet will pay dividends in the long run. It wasn't long before we moved onto the 3rd stage and got to enjoy pancakes... more on that in a couple of days though... be sure to subscribe to receive all updates delivered FREE to your inbox - Click Here to Subscribe!

I'm currently working through the GAPS Intro Diet. Slowly but surely :) My symptoms haven't gone away completely, but they've reduced a lot. Can't wait to read more updates from you!
Thanks for the support. Good luck with your GAPS Journey. :)
What a great site! I've done the gaps diet before (chronic eczema) and for the most part it definitely helps! I found that with skin conditions, 90% is due to allergens in the foods we eat. Good luck!
Hi there- I'm so happy to have come across this post as I've been looking for someone to share their experience with the GAPS diet and how it specifically helped with eczema. Would you be interested in sharing your story on my blog? http://itchylittleworld.com/
Please email me if you're interested. jennifer@eczemacompany.com
Thanks!
