Julia Child's Vanilla Custard Recipe

A favorite sweet treat of our family is custard. We love chocolate custard, coconut custard and custard in it's purest form - vanilla custard. I've followed a number of custard recipes over time and Julia Child's Vanilla Custard Recipe (it's referred to as Creme Anglaise/Light Custard Sauce in Mastering The Art Of French Cooking) is the richest, most delicious of all custard variations.

It's a smooth custard that's incredibly sweet and is heavenly poured over pancakes, cakes or indulgently eaten straight with a spoon!

My only adaptation from her recipe is to reduce the sugar content slightly, and even still it's incredibly sweet!

Don't be afraid of the custard curdling, just take it nice and slow and to quote Julia Child: “The only real stumbling block is fear of failure. In cooking you've got to have a what-the-hell attitude.” So, give it a go and enjoy!

Peter Pan Morning Tea at The Langham, Melbourne

My youngest celebrated his birthday 3 weeks ago and in 2 weeks my oldest will celebrate his Birthday and I was trying to think of a special, wondrous treat for them to celebrate their birthdays. The Peter Pan Morning Tea at The Langham Melbourne was the perfect solution - a unique experience that I just knew that they would enjoy.

We caught the train into Melbourne City and enjoyed a spot of sightseeing before making our way into The Langham, conveniently located across from Flinders Street Station.

The boys were wowed the moment we walked into the ornate foyer...

5 Books To Help Kids Eat More Vegetables

A recent study revealed that children eat more vegetables after learning about "the importance of healthy food and why their bodies need a variety of foods." (See: Teaching Young Children a Theory of Nutrition: Conceptual Change and the Potential for Increased Vegetable Consumption Psychological Science 0956797612474827, first published on June 26, 2013)

So, when kids understand the benefits they are so much more inclined to actually try vegetables and others foods they would usually turn their noses up at.

It's not only vegetables - my almost 5 year old was resistant to meat more than other food group and once we told him that meat will help his muscles grow like his Daddy, then he was more inclined to eat meat.

If you'd like to do your own experiment then here are 5 books to help you in your quest to get your kids to broaden their eating horizons:

1. I Can Eat A Rainbow by Anabel Karmel

2. Good Enough To Eat by Lizzy Rockwell

3. Eating The Rainbow by Star Bright Books

4. Eating The Alphabet by Lois Ehlert
5. The Vegetables We Eat by Gail Gibbons

Have you read any of these books, or do you have any books to add to this list? Please share your thoughts in the comments.
